An office building with a priesthood. A printer that bleeds when Canon Law goes unaddressed. A man who has spent ten years perfecting the art of not being noticed — until the Varnish starts to thin.
Synopsis
To the uninitiated, it’s a printer malfunction. To Jasper Ward, it’s a stress fracture in the ritual layer. He is LBN-01 — the Load-Bearing Node — the anchor the building relies on to keep the ceiling from meeting the floor, currently disguised as a mid-tier administrative floater.
The Organization runs on Performance, Trust Velocity, and the Varnish — the breathable lie that makes fluorescent flicker look like a design choice. Jasper’s survival strategy has always been the one the building trained into him: don’t shine, don’t sink, float. This is what happens when floating stops being enough.
